Step 1

Let's start with the essentials! First of all, everyone must get familiar with this historical event. Watch the video and read the article about the Armero Tragedy we attach down below in order to understand the dimension of this catastrophe.

Step 2

Choose the character you three will be working with for the development of your task and discuss how your story will be designed. For this discussion, think about the basic structure of your story (who is going to recount the story?, is it going to be your character (1st person) or someone else (3rd person)?; with what event do you want your story to start?, with which one do you want it to end?; do you want it to focus on your character's thoughts or in the series of events occured during the tragedy?; ...) These are the character options:

A PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENT (KID) - A DOCTOR - THE MAYOR OF THE TOWN - A TEACHER - THE PRIEST OF THE TOWN - A GROCERY STORE CASHIER - A RETIRED PERSON

In order to accomplish a constructive discussion, we provide you with the link of a website that can help you categorize your ideas through a brainstorm organizer (Popplet) as well as a tutorial video that can help you, in case it's hard for you to work with it. Check the links!

TIP: You shouldn't delete what you three do on Popplet, maybe it can help you later on Step 4.

Step 3

Each member of the team will choose a role for the rest of the activty. In order to achieve a just and helpful role distribution, take into account the interests and strengths of each member. In case there are more than one person interested in certain role, make justice happen and find a way to appropriately distribute the role in question. Start with the duties  of your role pressing its respective icon:

HISTORIAN

WRITER

STORYTELLER & EDITOR

Remember that your role is yours and only yours from now on. It has particular duties that relate to its field of action. These duties of course are very important for the success of the task, so it's crucial that you commit to your role and everything related to it. Your contribution is essential!

Step 4

After everyone checked what their respective duties are and got in touch with the information they need for the development of their part of the task, the whole team needs to gather. First, all of the members will share their personal experiences getting close to their roles as well as the information learned and gathered throughout that experience. After that, altogether, you will start to build up your story. You can just enlist the facts in the order that the storyteller is intended to narrate the story. However, you can also write the chronicle the way it is going to be recounted on the podcast. You, more than anyone else, know what's better for your story.

At this point, all of your individual research and preparation needs to manifest for the sake of the final product. The historian needs to make sure that the story matches the facts of the historical event. The writer, besides leading the story building, will check on the traits of the character and the  geographical and temporal setting. And finally, as the mission of the storyteller is, at the end of the day, making the story more thrilling and entertaining, what they must check on for this step is if the story is appealing for the reader (or listener). In other words, this member has to make sure if the story is well-structured and interesting.

Remember that, if you saved your Popplet (the one you probably created on step 2), you can use it again to organize the contributions of each member.

Step 5

This is the final step of your task. It's time to make your ideas come true. For this step, you will create your final product: your team's podcast. First, you have to record the storyteller recounting the story. And then, you must edit the podcast with all of the effects you want to include. Even though these activities are led by the storyteller/editor, both the historian and the writer must assist their classmate in order to achieve an excellent podcast. For your podcast, mind the sound effects, the appeal of the story account, and any other item that can make your story much more attractive and thrilling. Remember that this is the product your team will share with the rest of the class, and it will be the proof of all of your team's previous efforts. Good luck!

Before you start creating your podcast, you should look at the rubric we will use to evaluate your podcast. Press the "Next" button, to do so.
